How to Install and Use a Clover Flex Device (Card Connect)

RecPro is compatible with the Clover Flex (K400) credit card device when used in conjunction with a Card Connect payment gateway.  This article will go over how to connect this device to Wi-FI, configure it in RecPro, and how to complete a credit card transaction from the shopping cart module.

Note:  RecPro version 1.38.1 or higher is required for this device.


Connecting the Clover Flex to Wi-Fi



1. Power on device and select your language.

2. Select Wi-Fi on the Network Connection Screen. (This may be pre-selected for you)

3. Tap 'ON' to set Wi-Fi on (green toggle)

4. Select your wireless network from the list of available wireless networks.

5. Enter in your wireless password.

6. Tap CONNECT

NOTE: If you do not see your Wi-Fi network name, you may have WEP or open access network. Please connect your Clover Flex to a WPA or WPA2 network for PCI compliance reasons.


Activate your Clover Flex

Locate your device activation code which should have been received from Card Connect via email.  Activation codes are unique for each device and are based on its serial number.  The serial number can be found at the top of the activation screen.  During the device initial setup you will be asked to enter this code when you get to the following screen.



Set up Admin Account

During activation you may be asked to set up an admin password.  This will be used to unlock the device from sleep.  Enter a 4 or 6-digit Passcode you would like to use to access your Clover device(s) as the owner/admin.


Once you arrive to the WELCOME screen you should see a status of BOLTED.  This indicates that the device is connected to Card Connects servers and is ready to be used. If you see a status of UNBOLTED your device may not have an internet connection or your firewall is blocking the device from reaching Card Connect. Required firewall rules can be found HERE.

How to Configure the Clover Flex in RecPro

1.  Log into RecPro.  The 'Site' you log into must be tied to the same merchant account that is programmed on the Clover Flex device.  This is required.  You can view which merchant account each site is tied to by going to 'Setup' -> 'System Defaults' -> 'Sites'.         

2. Go to 'Settings' -> 'Device Manager' -> 'Credit Card Reader' -> Choose 'Clover'.  Under 'Device Serial #' choose the device you are wanting connected to the PC your on.  This number can be found by pressing 'Admin Panel' on the WELCOME screen.  

NOTE:  The Point of Sale application has its own unique credit card device setup.  This is found by pressing 'Device Manager' at the login screen.  All other instructions are the same.



How to Enter a Credit Card Payment

1.  From the WELCOME screen press 'Customer Mode'.

2.  You will receive an instructional screen indicating that you can press all four corners of the screen to exit 'Customer Mode'.


3. Press 'OKAY'.

4. Once you see the following 'BOLT Powered by CardConnect' screen you are ready to initiate a payment in RecPro.

5. Open the 'Shopping Cart' module and begin a sale.

6. During checkout choose 'Credit Card 1' as your form of payment.  

7. Press 'Swipe Card' to wake up the Clover Flex device and initiate a credit card transaction.


8. You should now see the following card entry screen.  Press 'CONFIRM' to move forward and enter the chip end of the credit card into the front of the Clover Flex device.  You can also use 'Tap to Pay' at this point as well.


9.  Allow the Clover Flex device to process the entered card until it asks for you to remove it.  Once removed you should see a Transaction ID and Auth Code enter the checkout screen.  This indicates a successful charge.


If a customer wants to give a credit card number over the phone you can manually enter a card on the Clover Flex device using the steps below.


How to Manually Enter a Card on a Clover Flex

1.  At checkout, instead of pressing 'Swipe Card' you will be pressing 'Manual Entry'.   


2.  You will be asked on the Clover Flex device to confirm the amount being charged.  Press the 'CONFIRM' button to move forward.  You will then be asked for the card number, CVV and expiration date.  Each time a value is entered press the 'Enter' button to move forward.  After entering the final value the device will process the card and if the transaction is successful you will see the transaction ID and auth code dump into the checkout screen.
