How to Install and Use a V400C (Forte)
Before connecting your V400C make sure you have all cables along with the device. You will need the included power cable, USB-A to Mini-USB cable, an RJ-45 Ethernet cable used to plug the unit into a live RJ-45 wall jack or ethernet switch, and the included breakout cable (See below). Each V400C will have firmware installed by Forte before it was shipped to the customer. The firmware will have the compatible merchant account(s) programmed into it. Forte support can also change which merchant account(s) the device is able to communicate with by pushing an update to the device over an internet connection. Their support can be reached at 866-290-5400. You will also want to make sure Forte has set up your device in 'semi-hybrid' mode. This is required in order to work with RecPro.
NOTE: The V400C is Wi-Fi compatible. This can be used instead of an Ethernet cable. See bottom of page for Wi-Fi setup Instructions.
Plug each cable into their corresponding ports on the V400C or break-out cable as depicted below.
The Mini-USB cable should plug directly into the PC. Do not plug a V400C into a USB hub as it will cause communication issues with RecPro. The RJ-45 cable should plug into a live ethernet port so that the unit can communicate directly with Forte over the internet. In order for the V400C to be able to communicate with Forte it must be able to reach the IP 52.1.60.186 through port 5050 and 52.1.41.20 through port 443 and 80.
Once all cables have been plugged in Verifone's Windows USB Driver must be instilled on the PC utilizing this device.
Installing the V400C Driver
1. Downland drives from https://forte.net/devdocs under 'Downloads' -> 'Drivers' -> 'Verifone USB Driver'
2. Extract the 'UNIFIEDUS BDRV-05.00.05.02-B3.zip' file after downloading.
3. Open the resulting 'UNIFIEDUS BDRV-05.00.05.02-B3' folder and extract the file named 'UNIFIEDUSBDRV-05.00.05.02-B3.zip'.
4. Open the resulting 'UNIFIEDUSBDRV-05.00.05.02-B3' folder.
5. Open the folder named '64'
6. Run the file named 'silent_install.bat' with elevated administrator privileges.
7. Reboot the PC
8. Your V400C device should now show up in Windows Device Manager with an assigned COM port number. You will need to retain this COM number for setup within RecPro.
Once you have confirmed that Windows has assigned the V400C a COM number you can proceed to setting the device up in RecPro.
Setting up V400C in RecPro
1. Log into RecPro.

Using the V400C with RecPro
1. Power on the device.
2. Allow for the V400C to boot up. You will eventually see the 'Welcome' splash page. This screen indicates that the device is ready to communicate with RecPro.
4. Log into RecPro. The 'Site' you log into must be tied to the same merchant account that is programmed on the V400C. This is required. You can view which merchant account each site is tied to by going to 'Setup' -> 'System Defaults' -> 'Sites'.
5. Open the 'Shopping Cart' module and begin a sale.
5. During checkout choose 'Credit Card 1' as your form of payment.
6. Press 'Swipe Card' to wake up the V400C and initiate a credit card transaction.
7. You should now see the following card entry screen. Enter the chip end of the credit card into the front of the V400C. Note: You can also use tap to pay at this same screen as well.
8. Allow the V400C to process the entered card until it asks for you to remove it. Once removed you should see a Transaction ID and Auth Code enter the checkout screen. This indicates a successful charge.
If a customer wants to give a credit card number over the phone you can manually enter a card on the V400C using the steps below.
How to Manually Enter Card on V400C
1. Repeat the steps above until you get to the V400C 'Entry Screen'. At the entry screen press the red 'X' button.
